Klein Creek Streambank Stabilization
Village of Carol Stream, IL
Completed December 2022
The Klein Creek Streambank Stabilization Project focused on restoring and enhancing the stream corridor through a combination of naturalized and structural improvements. The project included streambank excavation and reshaping, re-meandering of the creek to establish a new channel with oxbow features, and wetland construction to support ecological function.
Stabilization techniques incorporated a vegetated rock toe, in-stream rock substrate areas, stream barbs, toe wood with rock, and a pre-cast modular retaining wall. Additional work involved tree removal and clearing, adjustments to stormwater outfalls, and comprehensive site restoration including turf establishment, native vegetation installation, and ongoing maintenance and monitoring to ensure long-term success.
